date and time of sony handycam

I have a Sony DCR-SR40 handycam. I set the date and time so that when I record it will appear. But the problem is when I play it via the a/v cable to the tv and to the DVD that I burned, the date and time are not showing while the movie is playing. I've chatted to a sony agent but I didn't get the answer that I wanted. I can only see the date on the thumbnail at the start of the movie.
