I'm copying photo's to CD-R discs but they are ending up as read-only on the disc. I need them to be normal files so I can work with them off disc. How do I do this?

CD-R's are Read-Only. Let's say you burn a file for Microsoft Word and would like to edit the file, you could modify whatever you'd like in Word but once it comes time to save the file, you wouldn't be able too because the CD has finished being burnt too. One way to get around this is by using a USB Memory Stick (simplest and cheap if all you're using it for is files so a 512 or 1Gb will be fine)or a CD-RW.

AMD64 X2 4200 @2.5Ghz
Corsair 3Gig Dual-Channel 2x512 2x1gig
MSI R4830
Seagate 160Gig SATA
Seagate 320Gig SATA

I presume you are finalizing the cdr after the burn?
If you drag and drop or copy and paste pics to a CD and burn them you should be able to do the same when taking them off your CD and putting them into a folder on your PC.

Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers
