Does anyone know a good program that can convert .vob files from my sony dvd handycam to somthing i can edit in adobe premiere. Maybe a mpg files. This is my first time video editing. So also if anyone has hany good website about this let me know please.

If you are "first time video editing" then Windows Movie Maker is avery good place to start since, although basic, it is easy to use. It is included in WinXP. Another extremely user-friendly program to use is Pinnacle Studio.

VVob files are basically Mpeg files. There may be a way to convert them into a single Mpeg file. But... mpeg is a compressed format. There are no easy ways to edit them, with the exception of cutting sections out. You will need to convert them to something like uncompressed AVI to properly edit them. Then you would need to reencode them back to Mpeg/Vob. The reencoding process will reduce quality - how much is subjective.
There are many DVD/Vob to AVI converters. I haven't used any so I can't recommend one. A google search will give you some places to start.

Adobe should support DVD/VOB. I have Nero and it does. VOB is just a file extention used in DVD's for MPEG.
Try just renaming the file to Mpg.

MPEG1 files can be editted, if you want to convert to it.
The XVID/DIVX AVI format is very popular these days. But I don't know if they are edittable.
There is some video help at:

Agree with HAM...
there is a loss involved in any conversion in the first place, so you do not want to convert back and forth for no reason. Converting from mpeg to avi then back to mpeg is a waste of time and a loss in quality.
mpeg CAN be edited and in fact... mpeg edit is beginning to gain in popularity as we move in to HDV. (HDV is MPEG and HD cams shoot and download as mpeg)
One other item... you must be careful when changing the name of VOB to MPG. Although it is true that vob is mpeg, there is a difference... a vob is an mpeg file with the sound muxed. In other words you may or may not lose the audio when the name is changed, depending on the situation.

Sorry... I shoould clarify... Ham is speaking only of MPEG1... I am speaking of 1 AND 2
I have an HD cam (the sony HC3) and I do A LOT of mpeg edit.

as I know PVid (presentavid.com) can edit mped1 files, but after u converse files to mpeg. and again, quality will be not good.
Adobe progs a also not bad.
