I don't know if I can explain this well enough. I've been using Microsoft Photo Story (comes with MS Digital Image Suite 2006) to make a WMV movie file of family vacation pics. The software doesn't give me a lot of control over how I export the WMV. Only resolution size is an option. Problem is if I take the create WMV file (which looks awesome), it doesn't always play on a target machine because a new codec has to be downloaded and of course MS asks the user to download the latest Media Player. I'd like to convert the file into something more "simple" if possible to avoid the codec download stuff. I just want the video file to play right away without any fuss for the largest number of machines.

Wait for other suggestions, but my advice would be to save it as a mpeg1 or mpeg2 file, if you have those options.

Yeah. Saving it as MPEG1 or 2 using the original video editing software isn't doable unfortunately. It's a MS product and it only allows me to save in WMV and other formats for portable devices only.
