Solved Computer will not read sd card from camera

November 17, 2013 at 01:43:51
Specs: Windows 7
Up until 10 days ago I could put the SD card from my Nixon camera into the slot on the front of my computer and it would recognize it and read it without any problems. Then for no reason that I can think of it just does not recognize the fact that there is a card in there each time I try. I have tried two different cards and neither work. Both cards still work fine in the camera.

I am very much an amateur at this and am completely lost. Can any one help please?

When you insert an SD card into a computer it will come up as (or in) a specific drive in "My Computer".

It will also create a pop-up for handy use (AutoPlay).

We need to decide which of these is the situation. Go to "My computer" with the card inserted and see if there is a small drive which contains your pictures. They will usually be in a DCIM folder and you should be able to double click each picture to open it.

If that works we can look at the AutoPlay issue.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Do you get any message at all when you insert the sd card? It may be a problem with the port. Those are USB connected so you might look in device manager and see if there's any problem showing there.

As a last resort you could buy a card reader and connect it separately to an external USB port.

Those Nixon cameras can be 'tricky'. (Sorry, couldn't resist that. Another episode of 'fun with typos') (Too young to know about 'tricky dicky' Nixon? Google it.)

Check your card. It seems that there is something wrong with your SD card.
