perhaps you need some sort of video player on your pc. intervideo windvd or powerdvd. These cost, so google for a freeware video player. Mind you, I would expect to see some files if you open it up. Right click on the dvd & click properties. If it sees anything, try changing it to media player.

Does the dvd play on the TV? If so then a dvd player for your pc as suggested should take care of it. Otherwise you may have the wrong media for your dvd writer - check the manual for dvd disk recommendations.

Perhaps the DVD drive in your computer only recognizes DVD-R/RW and not DVD+R/RW.

Google for VLC player. It's free and will play just about anything.

It can't play a DVD that is the wrong format for the DVD drive (i.e. +R/RW vs -R/RW).
