codec problem

i was having issue playing a video i downloaded (instead of video it was 6 hours of audio), so i downloaded a codec pack (nimo 50 build 8 which was recommended)thinking that was the issue. however now im having all kind of issues. for example when i try to watch the adult swim fix, mozilla crashes. when i try to watch some of my japanese videos wmp crashes. i have tryed uninstalling the codec pack and installing different ones (xp codec and k lite mega codec) but still no luck. some one please help me.
