cna't format memory card

I bought a sandisk 2gb memory card for my kodak easy share C310 didgital camera. WHen I insert the card it gives file sys error what does this mean? How am I suppose to format the memory card?

You should be able to format the card when it's in the camera using the option menus. Do you see an option to format when you go into the menus?
