Subject: choppy video playback on x2 3800+OS: Windows XPCPU/Ram: 2Ghz/2Gb |
Comment: Hello, I just got a new system recently and here are the relevant specs: amd x2 3800+ a8n32-sli mobo 2gb corsair xms pc3500llpro ram When I try to play a video either by mounting the image in daemon tools or playing straight from the directory, I get pauses in the video maybe every minute or so and the pauses can last for upto 5 seconds or it could be a series of short pauses. I have tried a selective startup by removing all programs from startup (Antivirus, Zonealarm, etc...) but it still happens. The only solution that provides a good result is to set my video player to a realtime priority and it makes it better, but there are still noticeable pauses. I don't understand this because all my resources are being used very minimally when the video is playing, so maybe its a codec problem? Or maybe a Windows service is causing this? Any Ideas? Thanks, Igor

Reply: (edit)Do you have more than one codec pack installed? If it is a codec problem you might want to try uninstalling the packs (assuming thats how you installed them) and then install with the light version of the k-lite pack. If that doesn't work try some others maybe?? Tsunami codec pack, ffdshow etc.. check out the reviews. Maybe its a graphics card problem?

Reply: (edit)Well, I didn't install any codecs at all. All I have installed is VLC media player and WinDVD. My graphics card is an XFX 7800GT OC, and it plays games without any hiccups. Its just movies through WinDVD.
