I have an image with a blue background and I want to change the background. How can I do this? What do I need to accomplish this? Anyone have such a program I cant get my programs to do nothing like this. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Is anything like this available as freeware or shareware?
Thanks!

If you are talking about a static graphic as opposed to the background of a video clip, then Yes you can in a bitmap editor program otherwise known as a paint program. Photoshop, Ulead, Corel Paint, and Paint Shop Pro are four well known among many.

There are several ways to do this depending on the makeup of your photo. Try Googling your question and eventually you will find what information you need.

Then industry pollutes the water and kills all the fish.

I use the Magic Wand (or "Lasso") in PhotoShop to crop out the image from the background and then place it over another layer being my new background.

It appears that Gimp has a similar tool.

Gimp for Windows download page.

If you are trying to remove a certain image from it's background and place it on a new background, use the Extract filter in Photoshop, and then use the History Brush tool to clean it up. Next, CTRL+SHIFT+N to create a new layer and import your new background and place the 'extracted' image onto a layer above the new background layer.

If the background is an even, solid color, I'd use the "Background Eraser" tool. You can find it in most graphics programs. This is much easier than the lasso or magic wand tool. With PhotoShop, you can also pick the "Replace Color" command and change the background to any other color.
