CD interactive menu that runs on mac and pc

January 16, 2011 at 10:01:41
Specs: Windows 7
I am looking for software that can create an interactive menu on a cd that will automatically start on both windows and mac computers when you insert the cd- just like when you insert a cd to install software and it automatically plays. I have two different versions of a movie on the cd, and want a menu where the viewer can click an image to choose if they want to play the mac version or the windows version of the video. Any suggestions?

Why not just use a video codec/format that can be played on either?

Please let us know if you found someone's advice to be helpful.

XpUser4Real: Thanks, I'll check into Pinnacle!

Sci-Guy: Do you have any suggestions? I've been looking and most video formats don't seem to be compatible btw pc's and macs...

The QuickTime player is available for either Mac or PC, so you could try .mov or .mp4.
You could even convert your movie to .flv, to be played in the Adobe Flash player (available for both Mac and PC).

I'm sure there are other options, but I've given you the two most common to both machine types.

Thanks Sci-Guy! However, I can't get the video to convert well to flv, and many pc owners don't have quicktime installed. I believe the problem with mp4 is that it's not supported on older editions of windows media player. I was hoping to make this so easy that anyone can play it without having to download anything, but it's turning out to be a hunt for the holy grail!
