I have a Sony dcr-trv-285e handycam. The prob is when i transfer my video from my handycam to pc using the software provided ny sony the quality is very poor and it takes a lot of time and utilizes a lot of space. I am using usb 2.0 to transfer my video.... I also cant transfer my video at a good resolution..

Shall io buy a firewire to improve the quality. Iam planning to buy dvd santa to capture the video from the handycam.

Pls help me choosing the correct softwares/hardwares for the problem..

The quality (resolution) that you get depends upon the resolution of the camera.

It's a fact of life that video takes a lot of space and and lot of time to transfer.

I doubt that switching to firewire or DVD Santa will make any appreciable difference.

I have a Sony Handycam.
I use Pinnacle Studio 9.4 to capture the video. With it I can set the quality of the video captured.

The captured video files are huge. I get about 10 minutes per 1gb at 720x480.

I have tried it using USB2 and with Firewire. It makes no difference in the quality or speed. They are the same.

The difference is in that with Firewire you can control the camcorder with the PC whereas you can not using USB.

Most DVD writers come bundled with a video program. I also bought Pinnacle Studio as Brian said, but my HP DVD writer came bundled with Showbiz and that's a good program also.

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

I have a samsung dv camera, I use ulead mediastudio pro or sometimes roxio's capture program via firewire to capture. I capture it in DV1 which from what I can see is the exact same quality as the original. It does use up a whole lot of space, we're talking gigbytes, but I have a lot of space to work with and I don't see any dropped frames and I capture it at full quality.
