can't play old DVD

Specs: Windows 64

My computers and DVD players cannot play old DVDs that I used to watch. WHY?

could be many reasons.
1- how were they stored, on end or face down
That is crucial especially if YOU burned the DVD. Face down is the best as there isn't that much chance of the burn to drip down
2- Were the DVD's left in a climate controlled area?
3- Are the DVD's full of finger prints or severely scratched?
4- have you tried the DVD's in someone elses players?
