Hey all of you in cyberspace, I have a question on which brand and size of SD card i should buy for my Canon SD300. I purchased a Kingston 512MB Model SD/512. I read that someone had problems with it and that a faster card was needed to get the full effect of the video mode, which i hear is outstanding. I want to know if I am getting the best out of my camera with this card. Help me out please.

Thomas

Ok, it goes something like this:

A SD card, no matter what brand or size, can be one of 2 things

a) a "normal" speed card, about 3 to 5mb/s read/write speed.

b) a "high speed" card over 66x or about 10 to 16mb/s read/write speeds.

A high speed SD card is a must to get good frame rate/quality video when using a digicam.

The write speed limits the camera's ability to take good video and/or continuous high speed pictures (3-4 shots a second).

I, for example, am limited with this feature to about 12-16 continuous shots (4 shots second) because the camera's buffer gets full and the card cannot write fast enough to catch up and has to pause for about 3-4 seconds every dozen shots or so; this however does not affect my video feature because my camera only offers low-res video anyway (QVGA) and the video is only limited in time by the card's capacity, but believe me when I say that it doesn't matter cause I DIDN'T buy a lumix fz-20 to shoot video with.

So I don't know about the cannon but as I understand it to shoot smooth high-res video (VGA or higher) on a digicam you need a high speed card; what, is you camera pausing or "blacking out"?

Peace.
