I am a newbe to both Firefox and saving videos. I have a .swf file that I have saved from the web. I have both Flash and Shockwave installed but still cannot play the files that I have downloaded. If I double click on the .swf file and try to play it I get the windows message that it does not know what program to use to play it. Here is one of the sites I am trying to save the file.http://www.tasteofhome.com/Videos
I would GREATLY appreciate any assistance I can get.I am a newbe to both Firefox and saving videos. I have a .swf file that I have saved from the web. I have both Flash and Shockwave installed but still cannot play the files that I have downloaded. If

Firefox or Internet Explorer 'should' play SWF files. But I found out that (for some unknown reason) they don't on my system.
There is a free SWF player at:
http://www.browsertools.net/SWF-Ope...

I guess I did not make it clear what I want to do. I want to save a video from the web to my hard drive and them play it - not in any internet browser . For example here is a video I want to save - how do I download this to my hard drive and play it?

You stated that you wanted to play SWF files and couldn't.
If you want a program that will download videos, you can find one at:
http://www.applian.com/replay-av/in...or you can go to zamzar.com
Or do a Google search for "download videos".

I have to download web videos in order to acutally watch them because of insufficient bandwidth to maintain the video stream. The Downloading part is pretty stright forward, there seem to be several sites that can be found by just doing a websearch under something like "download youtube video", or similar search topic. It seems you usually need to rename the downloaded file and add the ".flv" extension. For .flv files there is a free standalone player here:
http://www.sothinkmedia.com/
look in their downloads and you'll see the free flv player listed. Once installed all I have to do is doubleclick on a file with the .flv extension and the player pops up ready to play the file. However, I have not found a free, standalone ".swf" file player. Sothinkmedia does offer software for sale that will convert the .swf file to another format which will play in your media player, but there doesn't seem to be just a standalone player for the swf files. I don't know why not.

Baby Flash Player, Swiff Player, Swf opener, Flash Movie Player.. these are all free and can play swf files. Search and download them.
