What type of video capture card do you have? Has it ever worked before?

My experiences with Pinnacle software and backed by comments in their own forums is that it is a very quirky and time consuming. One of the many difficulties I had was exactly what you describe. On some days it worked like a charm then the same day later on it wouldn't work at all. My suggestions are:

1. If funds is an issue, get Corel Ulead Studio 12 or even an earlier version of Ulead studio.
2. Alternatively, try TMPGEnc
3. If funds are marginally an issue try Sony Vegas 10 Pro but expect a steeper learning curve.

My suggestions are based on the belief you want to get your video editing work done as opposed to seeing your time wasted.

My suggestions are based on the fact that I have seen all to often, people finding a video output on their computer and think its an input. That is why I asked about the capture card.

As THX points out, this may well be a hardware problem. Answer his question about your capture card, so we can help you figure this out. In other words, how do you connect the VHS player to your computer?
