For some time now I have had a cannon a075 and just recently started selling on ebay. However when doing close ups (say of a ring) i can not get a detailed image. Just a slightly blured picture of the item. How can i correct this, is there anyway to manually focus?

Check your close up or macro setting. These are usually affected by whether the lens is in the wide or tele mode. Check your manual maybe you can't get that close without an auxiliary lens.

The manual clealy stated how to use manual focus mode (MF). Here are the focus ranges:

Normal AF: 46 cm (18.1 in.) - infinity

Macro AF: 5 - 46 cm (2.0 in. - 1.5 ft.) (W)/
Macro AF: 26 - 46 cm (10 in. - 1.5 ft.) (T)

Manual focus: 5 cm (2.0 in.) - infinity (W)/
Manual focus: 26 cm (10 in.) - infinity (T)

Note how the close focus rangss from 2.0 in. to 10 in. depending on whether you are in Wide or Tele mode.

You might have better luck when focusing in manual mode. Sometimes when working closeup the auto focus will automatically set the focus on a distant object rather than on the object you are trying to take a picture of.
