Hi guys,
I got a acer laptop. Its got 1.5 gigs of ram. 256 integrated video. Can my comp most likely handle video editing software? I've been confused about processors since the end of the p4 days, i got an Intel centrino duo i think. 1.7ghz.

My other question is, what professional software would run on windows? I currently use final cut pro on a mac at work and i love that program, but what could i run on windows at home?

Thanks,
cody

The best way to determine that, is to look at the minimum requirements of the editing program you want to use.

I use Adobe Premiere Pro (PPro7, PPro1, PPro, or whatever name you wanna give it) and Adobe AfterEffects 7.0, on an AMD Duron 1.3GHz with 512MB SD RAM (64MB shared). While it can be a bit slow during the rendering process, I'm getting good final results with my video projects. I capture my footage via a PCI Firewire card and get very few dropped frames (2 frames dropped per hour of video, at most). I also have Sony Vegas 7.0, but I tend to prefer Premiere for most of my video work.

Many people will tell you that you need a high-end machine for video editing/compositing, but that's a crock. Digital video has been around a lot longer than the P4 processor. You just need older software versions (which means more available plugins & tutorials) for lower-end machines.

In short, your is more than adequate for what you want to do.

If you want to test it, you can download Ulead Video Editor and see how it runs on your computer. They have a demo that has a time expiration; I don't know if it is full-featured or not but at least you can get an idea how something like that will run on your unit.
