I have an older Sony Handycam, it has the film recording as well as a small digital picture disk. I know how to take digital film directly onto the picture card, and how to get still photos of the regular film part, but i don't know if i can get the regular film onto the computer since it is not on the card, but in a casette. Does anyone know how to do that? there are cords you can hook the computer and camera together with, but after that i don't know how to direct it to take the film portion onto the computer. Thanks.

if you have RCA cords coming from the cam, you will have to get an AV/DV PCI card to capture the video from the cam to the PC like this one:

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

Yes, you do need a capture device. However a PCI card installed inside your computer is not the only option. External devices are also available that plug into your USB port. From my own experience I would be careful buying a card that uses Pinnacle Studio as the capture program. I found Pinnacle Studio to be a buggy, frustrating, program. However, I have not tried their current version. They also do something I find kinda cheesy, They give you a few basic filters and effects, then they try to sell you additional filters and effects, it's built right into the software. 'Click here to activate this...

I personally would recommend Adobe Premier or Ulead Video Studio.

Good luck!
