Please can someone advise me before I completely crack up! I am trying to burn a video camera file to DVD via Nero and it's just not happening!

I can get as far as downloading the file from the video camera to Nero but when it comes to burning it, it always comes up with the message that the file is not compatible.

How do I download it in the correct format to be able to burn it onto DVD?

If your video file is avi & you want to play it on a dvd player.

You need to convert the avi to vob.(dvd) Nero vision express will do this, or WinAVIVideoConverter.

Bear in mind it will take a couple of hours, at least to convert.

Another thing. Does the video camera file play in windows media player, before you convert? You might need the correct codecs, if it doesn't.

Thanks very much for the advice.

It does automatically play in Media Player and I have the file saved in this format already. When I try to burn it though, it won't let me and this is when it says that it's in the wrong format.

What do I need to do in Nero to convert the avi to vob?

Can you save the video to the hard drive first and then use Nero which will automatically convert it.

When saving to disk choose .avi format when asked.

As Bryco said, copy the video files to the hard drive first.
Then open Nero Vision Express/make dvd-video/add video files/then browse to the files/ Under MORE I untick create menu on disk & never use black thumnails.
Then continue with the wizard.

OK, I've done all that you suggested and it still won't work. I can get as far as to the burning part but when I click Burn I always get a message saying: Unable to prepare dat for recording: Prepare session failed: Transcoding of videos failed.

I've done that already and downloaded the version that allows me to convert .avi files to dvd. Is this the correct one?
