Let's just cut to the chase, shall we?
I ripped a factory DVD to my hard drive. Now, how do I
burn it to a DVD so it will play in my HOME DVD player?
I used Mac the ripper to rip. I can play it on my MacBook
Pro. I want to burn it to a DVD-R to play on my home
DVD player (the one attached to my TV). Hitch: it's 7.47
GB. Can I make it smaller, retain the quality and fit it on a
4.7 GB DVD-R?
Thx.

You should be able to just select the main movie, this should be about 4.3GB, you won't be able to burn the extras, that will take the size up.

Before posting try google. Backup. Use anti virus software.

Hey, thanks for the input. The app you mentioned is for
windows. I don't have a DVD drive on my PC, but I do have
one on my MacBookPro. I already ripped the DVD to my Mac,
now I want to burn it, preferably on a DVD-R, not a DVR-R
DL. The size of the folder I ripped called "VIDEO_TS" is 7.47
GB, is that what you mean by "the main movie"? The "extras"
amount to a negligible size.

I didn't read the post correctly.
I think you would find the main movie is only 4.3GB.
The extras will include film trailers, so that could account for the difference.
Googling I found this

it isn't free, a dvd burner might be cheaper.
