Hello, I've been using on and off ULeads Mediastudio pro 7 and now 8. I'm no expert by any means, just a novice, but I've been reading a lot about adobe premier. Does anyone have any opinion as far as what is the best editor in their opinion? I'm not only referring to those two that I mentioned, but any others that are simliar.

Thanks
Ray in PV

That all depends upon your meaning of "best". Premier is an outstanding program with a plethora of functionality - BUT, that added functionality comes at a cost. It has a much steeper learning curve.

So, if "best" to you equates with ease of use, then you will want something different. The easiest programs to use will have limited functionaliyt and the more robust programs will be more difficult to use. It's a tradeoff.

But, I really have no recommendation. I like different programs for different reasons.

Well said Michael J
My recommendation would be;
If you're only editing for personal use and not business, use the easiest programs. While they may be limited in what you can do, I'm sure they will (for the most part) do what you want/need it to do.
If you're looking to get into business then step up to something more like premiere. While it does take a while to learn the program(s), you and your customers would be more pleased of the capabilities your higher end programs can do.
For instance I do have premiere and a lower cost program (can't think of name off top of my head). Adobe lets me edit on the fly, insert music in more appropriate place then the lower cost one. Adobe also has a lot more special effects, music I can buy and use within the program that can be edited to the time needed, and various types of ghosting effects.
Good luck in whatever you choose

What happened to my quote

Adobe has gotten wise to the fact that there's a whole market of people that want a more powerful editing software package than your OEM stuff like ULead, but don't want to spend the money the pros do on premiere and Final Cut Pro. So they did the same thing they did with Photoshop and released Premiere Elements.

I haven't used it myself, but if it is to Premiere what Photoshop elements is to photoshop, you'll never notice the difference except for the extra $750 in your pocket :-)

Premiere Elements

Note that there's a free trial...You might as well give it a go. Personally, I've had nothing but trouble with pinnacle, and I love premiere. Good luck,

I have been enjoying Pinnacle 9.x for my personal video editing. Fairly simple to use and has a lot options. Pinnacle flavors.
I can not speak or vouch for V10.x.

Wow, great comments everyone. I don't plan on going into business editing, but I love editing my home videos. Uleads MediaSTudio pro has been good, except it crashes all the time. I'll check out some of the trial version of the programas you guys mentioned.
Thanks again for all of the input.

not long ago i came across presentavid (http://www.presentavid.com). simple and nice video editor. can add callouts, own logos & watermarks, can burn dvd automatically to watch on a dvd player and publish your video in different popular formats (avi, wmv, mpeg, even flash (swf/flv) and gif), also can record a screen (region, window) and then allows to edit it. exactly for those who start with all of these i guess. and also for those who don't want something complecated and just want to edit home videos
