Hey all. I have several seasons of DVDs that I would like to rip, store, and stream to my PS3/360/HTPC/etc. I am sick of swapping DVDs all over. So the question (which I know I will get 10,000 different answers for)...

What is the best format to convert these to, while maintaining VERY VERY GOOD QUALITY (important to me)? I rip my movies to VIDEO_TS folders, but for TV shows I can stand to save some space by using a non-pure format (two episodes of Hercules = 1 full movie, and I don't have THAT many terrabytes).

If it matters, I use DVDFab.

Thanks in advance, everyone.

"VERY VERY GOOD QUALITY (important to me)?"

If you want very, very good quality, you probably need to stick with direct copies.

I (and most other people) like to use DIVX or XVID. They give you pretty fair quality with a very significant decrease in file size. Of course they are 'non-pure', so I guess they fail your criteria. :-)

FWIW to XP users: When you click on the 'Command Prompt' you are just causing the 'Command prompt' to be displayed. This prompt gives you access to NTVDM.EXE, the 'NT Virtual DOS Manager'.

I know some nice DVD rippers for Mac:

1. Handbrake. This is a free tool for ripping dvd and convert it to other formats includes iPod MP4 format.

2. MacTheRipper. This one is also a free and professional software to rip DVD for Mac.

3. iMedia Converter for Mac. This one is the most powerful. It converts both DVD and videos to iPod touch/ iPod Nano/ iPod Classic, PSP, MP4 player, Zune.....all the other players. But not free.
