avi movies on dont play on lcd tv

Hi there. I recently tried to play some movies from my laptop onto my lcd tv but there was no picture just sound the movies are in avi format. I connected my laptop up to my tv with a hdmi cable. my desktop screen appears on my tv with the vlc player i use to watch the movies on my laptop. but when i press play to watch the movie all i get is the sound from the movie and the vlc player screen stays black. there is no problem when watching them on my laptop but they dont play on the tv i only get the sound.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I have a projector. It "shouldn't" be a problem. I have an ATI card and this is what I do:

Right click on my Desktop
click on Catalyst Control Center
under Display Manager, make sure I see the Main screen and the Clone screen (the projector in my case)
I right click on my Clone monitor (projector) and select "Swap Display Mapping"

And that's it. I can now watch avi's on my projector but now my primary screen has a black video.

For nVidia, i can't help you there.

That is because your computer is lack of certain codec.
http://www.free-codecs.com/download...
Download the k-lite code pack and it will fix your probelm

Since it's playing fine on his laptop it is not a codec issue.
