No longer can open my Adobe Photoshop 5.5 exe. on my xp. Shows up the Photoshop main screen but no following of details. It worked fine until two months ago.

you may have to uninstall and reinstall it again if you can't get back to a far enough system restore point
Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

I have re-installed two times to no avail. What is strange is when I go into the System Utility Config/Start Up Tab, add or remove checks to any box, close down again and reopen, sometimes the Photoshop will respond and open for me fully. It does not matter what I check or uncheck. Also, watching my Desktop as I close and re-open from the Start UP Tab boxes, I can see the Photoshop Icon flashing madly.

May I add some info? Adobe's Image Ready is part of the Photoshop download. My Image Ready works fine.

Maybe try these 2 cleaners:
ATF Cleaner and CCleaner and clean out all the excess junk files on your PC.
Then try RegScrubXP to get rid of all the bad registry entries.
Also, when was the last time you defragged?Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

Hello and thank you for the help. Yes, I defrag once a month. I finally did a Restore Point back to 12-2-2006 and solved my problem. Photoshop is opening fine and I hope it stays that way. Thank you again.

Glad to see it worked out for you, I mentioned restore in response 1
Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

Well, what can I say? I Restored back as far as I could, November, '06, and I still lose my Photoshop 5.5. I thought for sure I had it conquered with your suggestion as it opened up once.
I am very suspicious of the Registry. I am not going to fool in there so a computer technician is going to pay me a visit. I do not know if you would like to hear the result or not. Information is always a learning experience and the viewers might be curious.

Hi, RegScrubXP is really easy to use and won't mess anything up. You can always do a system restore point before deleting anything. It will detect invalid entries and you can have them deleted. It is real user friendly.
You can post your results after the technician is done, I'm sure we would be interested in the findings.Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

Finally...my Photoshop 5.5 and Roxio are back. What a road I have traveled. The Tech came and found my computer in perfect condition...scratched his head at not being able to bring up the Photoshop, etc. Long story shortened..System Configuration Utility/Start Up Tab/Google Toolbar Notifier\HKCU\Software\MS Windows. That was the culprit, Googles. Once we deleted Googles from my computer system, my Photoshop and Roxio are back to normal. My frustration at not being able to consistantly bring up Photoshop has been going on for several months and now to find it is Google and its' software that messed me up...well...phooey to Googles.
