I have tried two different dvd burners in this Dell and can’t get either to work..
This is a Dimension 8400 with a 3.2 gig Pentium and 2 gigs of memory running XP professional. The NEC 3450 A 16x came with the machine. When trying to make a dvd out of AVI or MPEG2 files the software says it was burned successfully but it will not play on either Cyberlink Power DVD or a stand alone dvd player. A commercial dvd will not play either. Audio is fine, video breaks up and is jerky.
I have tried various name brand manufacturers of 16x and 8x blank media.
I have tried swapping out the IDE cable.
I have installed more CODECS
The Dell forums did not seem too crazy about the NEC so I replaced it with a Liteon SOHW-1673S 16x DVD burner. It comes with a Nero OEM suite of DVD authoring software and again Cyberlink Power DVD. Tried both AVI and MPEG2 files. After burning dvd Nero says it was successful. But the disc will not play on the Cyberlink Power DVD program that came with the drive. I get message : Disc has unsupported format. The disc will also not play in a set top dvd player. It will not even recognize a commercial dvd.
Both recorders exhibit the same problems. Any suggestions?

Looks like this is getting ignored. First, get the K-Lite Codec Pack. Second: Explain further your statement that "it will not even recognize a commercial DVD". Then we'll go from there...
I wonder what'll happen if I do this ?
