WMP not playing some mp3s

I have some mp3s that I cannot play with Windows Media Player, but i am able to with other players like iTunes. Dont all players share the same codecs? How can i correct this?

You might be running wmp9 and I believe wmp10 is the latest version. You can get it through microsoft's webupdates site. One other thought, are you sure they're all .mp3 files? I know realplayer has files that wmp can't play.
