Why are Windows Media files dark?

I have a new video camera, a Canon HV20 and I use Pinnacle Studio 10.7 to create DVDs and Windows Media Files and hopefully some movies for the web. I have experienced very dark movies on the Win Media player. It is as if I were shooting without light, very shadowy if that is a word. The video's play back normal, not dark at all in the Studio Editor, but when I create the WMF, it is really dark. Anyone have any suggestions?
