What is the need of Zune to be HD?

Please tell me why Microsoft made Zune HD 1080p compatible.

The screen is so small that it doesn't matter if the device is Standard Definition or High Definition,the user can't really make out the difference.

According to the zune page at MS:
"Supported 720p HD video files play on the player, downscaled to fit the screen at 480 x 272 – not HD resolution. "

So, the 720P video is the highest it supports (not 1080p) and the time of that is you can connect it to an HDTV to watch the video.
