Hi. I have a wide screen TV, an old VHS VCR, a DVD player, and a cable box providing a premium service from Cablevision. Currently, the cable box receives the outside cable line, passes it to the VCR, and then to the TV. The VCR's "video out" is connected via RCA to the TV's VID1, and the DVD's connected to the TV, again via RCA, to the TV's VID2.
This setup currently works, but I feel like I am doing something redundant or wrong. What would be the best configuration for this setup?
Quite often the TV does not have enough connections to attach both the VCR and the DVD player but your does.
On my older TV I must connect the DVD player to the VCR and then the VCR to the TV but it can be a pain in order to watch a DVD through the VCR. My newer TV is setup like yours.
I would split the cable coming from the box. One split to the tv and the other to the vcr.
VCR to vid1
dvd to vid2
This way the tv and the vcr are a little more independant. You can record as you wish on the vcr without affecting your tv viewing, and you are not passing a junky signal from an older vcr to a nice wide screen tv.
