Can anyone recommend a good screen capture program for getting stills from DVD's? I know there are a lot out there, and I was wondering what's the one to use and what is available for free, any advice would be much appreciated, thanks.

Are you using Power DVD or WinDVD? If so you already have that feature built in. Just press the "P" key and it will store the screenshot in a subfolder of the DVD program.
If your looking for a third party application, it may not work. Most screenshot programs will produce a black image and not a picture.

With a bit of fiddling about (using DVD files from Windows Explorer) VirtualDub freebie will do this.
Watch aspect ratio's though, they are not always exactly right but individual picture ratios can be adjusted in PhotoShop or whatever.
For home video's put onto DVD's (4:3 ratio) I had to subtract 6.25% from the height - did the maths etc.
