Recording control doesn't save

Hi I have a video capture device and had to change some settings in the windows volume control. Is it normal that the settings don't save as this has happened to me. I selected Line-in to record from the video capture card to the sound blaster pci card.

I have noticed in the past that some recording programs think they know best, and reset the volume controls to the way they want it. Not much that you can do if that's what is happening.

OK yeah I thought that might have been the case because I was maybe using Audacity and a couple of recording programs around that time. Will just keep an eye on it then.
