I’m trying to encode a movie that is in avi. format using TMPGEne 3.0 XPress. The encoding goes fine until it hits 50%, then a message pops up that the movie is not supported file format. What’s wrong? How do I fix that? Thank you for your help everyone.

Are you running a FAT32 file system?
Fat32 has a 4 gig file size limit.
If your file is bigger than that then you will have to reformat your drive to NTFS or split your file into less than 4 gig chunks.

If that file is 1 hour, 56 minutes then it is not in .avi format. It is likely .wmv format.
If it is .wmv then you can use Windows Movie Maker (if you have SP2) to import the movie and then save it to 'My Computer' but select the quality setting of DV-AVI (NTSC).
At that length it will convert to .avi at about 7GB.
What format are you trying to convert it to?
