Hi can anyone tell me if something like this is possible and where I can go to find out information on this. I currently backup my movies on to CD-Rs or DVD-Rs and store them in CD wallets which I am finding annoying when trying to find a movie that I want also slightly worried about the CD-Rs/DVD-Rs degradding in quality over time and so I would like to store them on hard disk some how on my network where they will be easily accessible.
My MP3s are currently so unorganised all stored on my desktop PC and I am worried that one day my Hard disk will fail and I will lose the lot (I did do a backup to another hard disk on another desktop PC but this is not done often enough) I am interested in setting up a Linux server and keeping it in my attic on a wireless connection. It will only be accessible remotely over my network.
Lets say I have around 1TB of Movies, 200GB of MP3s, and possibly any other data that may need backing up apps etc 40GB, so I’m estimating I’m going to need about 2TB (4 x 500GB Disks) of Hard disk space. I would like to setup a RAID solution for redundancy in case a drive fails RAID 5 I believe.
Can someone please tell me if they have done anything similar or provide me with any information to start me off on this project I have no previous experience with Linux but am willing to learn as it interests me.

Thanks for any help

Seems like you need more hard drives or more DVDs as Linux will be of little use at this point or I am missing something here ?

Keep the old stuff running
