How to get correct screen size when streaming movies

Specs: Windows 10
I have a Samsung Smart TV using ethernet and a Seagate NAS drive.
I can play movies stored on the NAS drive in 2 ways.
1. Using the TV source select the NAS drive, find the movie and play. It plays. It is in correct screen format i.e. with black bars above/below. However Fast Forward/rewind do not work on remote - just Pause/Play.
2. using Seaget Media App. Find an play movie. Fast Forward/rewind now work but the image is now stretched to fit screen height .
SO how do I getFast Forward and correct screen size - I dont care which method to pla the movie.

Change the picture size using your TV's setup menu. It should offer a menu of picture formats eg: Widescreen, 4:3, 16:9 etc.

Choose whichever one looks correct on the screen.

Thanks - nice try - but ( i had already tried that)...
Screen size can not be selected when movie is playing via Seagate App
Selecting screen size before playing movie is overridden when SmartTV screen in opened to select App
