Specs: Windows 7
How do you play a BluRay movie/file from your Win7 PC 64 through the Ethernet connection to the BluRay player connected to your TV?

What format should the BluRay file be in?

What software is needed?

How do you set up the router?

Get a media player/streamer like WD Live tv.

Or, perhaps install a Media Server to the pc, & plug the ethernet cable direct into the tv.

I use Wild Media Server, I plug a network cable direct from the router to my Sony. WMS transcodes the video file so it plays mpeg on to my tv.

I can't seem to get a movie on my hard drive to play through Wild Media Server. Do I need to transcode a .mv4 file? What makes the Wild Media Server program actually play the video file...when I click the movie file Windows Media Player starts the movie but nothing shows on the TV through Wild Media Server...

This is what I have done.

Install WMS on pc.
Set it up, so that the movies on your usb drive are found. USB
is plugged into pc.
Also under WMS devices select your TV, if it is there.
Start server.
Plug network cable direct from router to TV in my case Sony
Go to network settings on TV & check the network settings.

If it sees the server, you have to browse to your movies.
My path was something like
WMS\Movies\Watch Movies\select the movie with the "T"

In one of the folders, there will be the original movie & one
with a T, this is the transcoded movie.

WMS, transcodes the file on the fly.

You do not use Windows media player on the pc, you play,
from the TV

What TV do you have, & what have you done so far?

After I sent the message, I realised that there is a PS3 media server.

Wild media server was meant to be connected direct to the TV. PS3 media server connects to the PS3.

WMS, transcodes the movies, to something playable on the particular TV, in my case sony bravia, MPEG2.

But with ps3 media server, it won't need to transcode, it will play mp4. (I think) etc

I found this by googling

Why don't you just copy the movies to the ps3 hard drive?

Or, get a Media player,

Here is a list of media servers

But, you need to go directly to the TV.

Or, buy a Network Media player

I googled & found this
