Comment: this may not be the right place to post this. i have a dvd rw in my laptop computer. for about a month or so everything was going fine, i was playing dvds and everything was smooth. then the dvd player stopped working. i would insert a dvd into the drive and it would click for about a minute and then it would say no dvd is inserted. i thought it coulc be that the dvd "eye" was damaged so it could not read anymore, but i have been using cd roms since then and they read fine. ps. my laptop is a compaq presario V3000

Reply: (edit)"this may not be the right place to post this" That's probably true - you don't have a DVD player, you're talking about a DVD drive - the General Hardware Forum would've been more appropriate, since this is a computer component. That's a much busier forum as well. I suspect it is quite possible for the drive to malfunction, and only be capable of reading or writing to CD discs. Could be a dirty lens, or worse I'm not one of those who think Bill Gates is the devil. I simply suspect that if Microsoft ever met up with the devil, it wouldn't need an interpreter

Reply: (edit)... yes, it seems that DVD drives employ two lasers, one for CDs and one for DVDs - so it may be that the one is broken on your drive. If that's the case, replacing the drive would be the only feasible option I'm not one of those who think Bill Gates is the devil. Reply: (edit)You should also try a DVD drive cleaner. Perhaps the DVD laser lens is just really dirty. "Enough, enough bowing down to disillusion! Hats off & applause to rogues & evolution! The ripple effect is too good not to mention. If you’re not affected, you’re not paying attention!"
