Are Divx formated movies that are copied from a PC to a DVD playable on a TV through the use of a newer regular DVD player or will the format be unplayable?

Depends on the DVD player, it will need to be DIVX
comptaible.So, no.
But, I have a Media player, I copy DIVX & XVID films to a
500gb drive & connect to my TV.http://www.maplin.co.uk/search.aspx?

EU members are worse.

As mentioned, you need a DivX (preferably DivX Ultra) player to watch most "PC-Format" video.
I have 2 Philips player and strongly recommend them.

Only a few DVD players can play Divx videos directly, like
http://www.amazon.com/RCA-DRC240N-D...if your DVD player cannot play divx videos, you need to burn them as regular dvd format, I recommend you use cucusoft to burn DVD movies, it is good at burning videos to dvd movies and make them play on DVD player. It Supports DivX, XviD, AVI, VOB, .asf, .wmv, .rm, .rmvb, and .mov format as input video.
