I replaced an old analog tv (with rabbit ears) for a tv with a built in digital receiver and am using the old antenna. I'm getting great reception on some channels but other channels I loose the signal and on the blank screen it says that the digital signal is weak. It will stay that way for a bit then the signal comes back but it keeps dropping the signal. Would a digital antenna solve this problem? Also my antenna is indoors. Do I need something on the roof? Thanks for your response as this is getting very annoying!

Yes a roof antenna would definitely give you a stronger signal and eliminate dropouts. Have a look at this site for some good information.

first thing first

THEIR IS NO SUCH THING AS A DIGITAL AERIAL.

all tv aerials are able to recieve digital broadcast

the most common new aerial upgrades are called wideband aerials that can see the whole part of the frequency spectrum that terrestrial tv broadcast are transmitted on rather than the old ones that can only see part of it.

an indoor aerial very rearly works due to the amount of signal lost trying to recieve the signal from inside a building.

best thing is a aerial located at rooftop (chimney) height professionally alligned. This should fix all problems a provide you trouble free viewing

One step below the above statement is to install an antenna
in your garage or attic.

I live in an area where there are a lot of thunderstorms and ,
while not completely lightning proof, reduces risks greatly.

The draw back is losing some signal strength, but not nearly
as bad as the box top antennas. Some external antennas
also have a signal boost (amplifier). DO NOT buy an
aftermarket brand amp as they could/will introduce noise.

What happened to my quote
