Difficulty installing itunes

January 8, 2010 at 13:36:52
Specs: Windows Vista

When I try to install itunes this is rejected by windows and the following error message is displayed.
"An error ocurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft. VC80.CRT, version = "8.0.50727.4053," type = "win32, publicKeyToken = " lfc8b9ale188e3b", process or Architecture = "X86". Please refer to Help and support for more information HResult, 0x8007054F."
I have tried most suggestions on the apple support pages and spoken to apple but everything they suggested failed to work. Tried to speak to Microsoft but helpline closed at 6pm. Now running out of time as mydaughter is back at Uni on Sunday and at this rate will have to survive without music for a term. Potentially life-threatening!

Do you have Vista 32 or 64bit? Do you have a previous verison of iTunes? Did you uninstall it first? Have you tried getting an earlier version of iTunes?

Hi
I have 32 b it Vista. I did have an older version which I uninstalled after prompting from Itunes. I did uninstall it first and tried using recommended uninstaller software to get rid of all of older version. I haven't tried getting an older version but hanks for the link. Can't try that at the moment as my daughter has the laptop at University. Also not sure if this will work as I've recently discovered from looking at the Windows update history that many of the auto updates since we bought the laptop in Aug 2008 are marked as failed. Not sure how to put that right.
