I'm trying to figure out how to convert VHS tapes to DVD. I know that I will need a new computer because my current one is 5 years old.

From what I understand, I either need a computer with a video capture card or a device such as Pinnacle's Studio Moviebox. Is that correct?

Does anyone have any experience is this area?

Hi Colin,

This is a pretty general question, and there are indeed many options. Since you are getting a new PC, I would recommend an internal DVD-burner and a video capture card - like the ATI All-In-Wonder series. If you wanted an external product, I've hasd good succes with the HP dc series (i.e., dc4000). Caution: DO NOT install different (competing) software products to capture/edit/burn videos - this can cause some serious software conflicts that I've only been able to resolve by the dreaded reformat & reload of the OS.

Good Luck!

well dang it...

I just today saw an ad in readers digest about this machine that would convert your vhs to dvds. You didn't have to plug it into a computer or anything. It cost about $300.

I have to leave (work) so I can't find the ad to give you more details, but I'm willing to bet that you could find something like this through google (or even ebay!)
