dvd vhs player: panasonic ht830V
plasma: TH-42pwd8uk

got our plasma.. the 8UK.. very nice..
and a panasonic home theater.. with surround...
my question is..
there is both output on the dvd player.. (to chose aspect ratio.. ) and there is again on the tv...

is there any way to have it automatically adjust it to either 16X9.. or full screen 4X3?
there is the setting "just" but that uses the whole screen.. i do not wish for this.. i want it in its true aspect.. be it 1.73:1 or 1.85.1 or if its full, to go to black bars on side...

its annoying.. everytime i have to goto the DVD player.. and chose first what the aspect ratio is... then i have to set it accordingly to the tv as well
is there anything im missing here?

thanks

If the aspect ratio is selectable on the player then you have to select it, because it is how the program material is formatted.

It would be nice to auto select, but a lot of people hate the letterbox format.

You might try leaving the tv at a setting but you might lose a lot of the viewing area.

i want to see how it was intended.. if that means letterboxing even more.. that is just fine...
widescreen, there is no standard.. i understand this..
i just wish it would autoselect.. if it was widescreen, what aspect ratio it is... and letterbox accourdingly.. and if its 4 by 3.. have it be 4 by 3...

this is a big dissapointment...
(i dont mind.. buy trying to explain this to the whole family.. will be a feat...)
