I'm getting an LG BD390 Blu-Ray player for Christmas (my wife can't keep a secret). I have a Hitachi 57S700 that only has DVI. I understand I can get an HDMI to DVI converter and hook it up. My question is about the quality?

I've read that due to copy protection if you hook up using component cables, the display will be dropped down to 480i or 480p. Does converting to DVI cause any issues such as this? This TV supports 1080i and I would like to get 1080i.

I can't be 100% sure because I don't have a Blu-Ray player but I have a DVI Video Card and an 50' 720 Plasma TV and I can hook it up without a problem. I use a DVI to HDMI cable and the quality is there BUT HDMI carries sound whereas DVI doesn't (It does on some video card)

Perhaps wait for a second opinion
