I am the IT manager at a community organisation with about 10000 members. All members data is currently in an Access database on our file server in the office. I now need to allow our members to update their details online, so they don’t have to call the office to do that. Problem is that we have many reports (written in Access), that still need to be preserved.
I’m planning to use the following approach. Being inexperienced, I’m not sure whether this is a reasonable approach or not. Please let me know.
1) SQL Server database on the web server with member information.
2) ASP pages on the web server that access the database. Used by members to update their details, place orders, etc.
3) Microsoft Access database on our office computers, linking to the tables in the SQL Server database over the Internet. In other words, instead of linking to tables in a database that sits on our file server, Microsoft Access would links to the tables in the SQL Server database on the web server. This way, members can access their info online, while our backend people can still run their reports (written in Access).
My concern is whether it is possible for Microsoft Access (running on our office computers) to link (over the Internet) to the tables in the SQL Server database on the web server.
Please let me know your thoughts.
Thanks in advance,
Matt Perdeck

Dear Matt,
there r 2 options to load your database over internet, 1) with free space host like MSN community 2) or you can chose paid service with FTP access. size of space you need depends on size of your database.
once you loaded your database over web, then you can access it by local application, or with ASP via ODBC- MS Access DSN [this utility is in-built in Win-XP]. Once you setup this ODBC connection, your database is available for online updates. If you had any other query, mail me
