deleteing hard drive

bought used computer to fix up for my daughters first computer, it had windows 2000 on it, i installed windows xp, hard drive is 51% used up, previous owner download a plethera of music, question is is there any way to delete all these files or folders from the hard drive? and would it free up space on the hard drive?

Did you just install Windows XP on top of the previous installation? You can delete any of the files that are not needed. But, a better approach would be to do a reinstallation prefaced by a reformat of the drive to bring it back to a pristine state first.
