converting excel worksheets to access tables

I loose some data when converting from text..even when I change the format.. example size column in excel worksheet is formated as text.. but when converted to acces only the size field is number, and text data is lost

Are you able to use any tools like Perl that could read this as a datasource and import to access rather than doing an export to something that won't maintain extended information?
