Specs: Windows 8
I have good files but the death of my pc now means I am on windows 8. I cant run approach.. How can i recover my database into openoffice or any other format

Find a friend who uses an older version of Windows and ask them if you can install your Lotus software on it in order to open your database. Then see what "export" options are available in order to export it to a format that OpenOffice can read.

Unfortunately you've been using software that's now discontinued. You should have abandoned it much earlier (before Windows 8 forced you to) and switched to OpenOffice or Microsoft Office then.
