chown and server folder question

CPU/Ram: pentium 4
Product: homemade

Not sure if right forum but I don't understand ii. and iii. I already chmoded the xg2data folder to 774

d. Example (*nix/*bsd):
i. Web server group is called “apache”
ii. Your name is “user”
iii. chown –R user:apache /server/xg2data
iv. chmod 774 /server/xg2data/*
