When I attempting to open my Act database this message appeared: "The database could not be accessed. In order to access this database, check your network connection and verify that your database server is available. It may be necessary to disable andy firewall software on you computer or the server."

The database is on an external drive I have been using for over a year. I tried disabling the firewalls. I tried using the database on my desktop and recieved the same message. Any ideas please?

Can you access other files on that external drive?

Try mapping the drive under Act again. It works like regular mapping but is specific to Act.

Did anyone figure a solution for this? I am having the same problem. I have been connecting to a remote db on the network for a while now but it just stopped working? I have no idea what the last post is saying about changing the computer name? I have not change anything like that? Not sure what you are talking about?

Edit your PAD file with NOTEPAD. Make note of the name in the HOST= parameter. Get into System Information thru START/PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/SYSTEM TOOLS. The name of your computer should be the same as the HOST= parameter. Mine wasn't. One of our network guys changed my computer name and ACT didn't like that. I changed the name of the HOST= parameter using NOTEPAD, saved the change and it worked like a champ...my database is back.

Thanks a bunch! My computer name was recently changed so that it could access a secure wireless network. After changing the computers name Act! wouldn't open my database. I thought it was corrupt.

I changed the HOST= parameter to the new computer name and it worked, my database can now be accessed.

Am trying to access ACT Premium 2006 for workgroups via vpn. VPN can be established; network drives can be accessed but not the ACT database; all attempts produce the same error:"The database could not be accessed. In order to access this database, check your network connection and verify that your database server is available. It may be necessary to disable any firewall software on you computer or the server." Act db can be accessed via remote desktop, but not the method of choice. PAD file points to the correct location. Any ideas?

Went looking for a solution for this problem and found it here. This has happened a few times in the past, either from a computer shut down problem (power loss) or after uninstalling something. Anyway, I had to correct the host name and the location before it worked. Tell me where to send some money because I was getting ready to spend some calling my local ACT expert.

Hello I have the same problem, but it doesnt have to do with the host name. ACT is running on Server 2003 and if i access it there locally it works, which means the host is correct. But if i try to connect to it from a client in the network it brings this error message. And i shut down all firewall which could be there in the network. It has something to do with Windows Server 2003. Since if i put ACT on a network client, i can access it easily from any other network client.

I would really really appreciate any suggestion. I m struggeling with this problem since more than 1 year now...

Ina

Hi,

I am working with ACT over LAN.

The database is running on a workstation (Name: Main) and it works fine there.

I am trying to access the database from another workstation (Name: Slave) but I get the following error:
The database could not be accessed. In order to access this database, check your network connection and verify that your database server is available. It may be necessary to disable andy firewall software on you computer or the server."

I have tried the solutions above but none of them worked.
