Access 2007 Cash Drawer Firing

I am writing a point of sale program in Access 2007 and need to include a way of firing a cash drawer from the program. As I haven't obtained the drawer yet I have the choice of getting a serial or RJ11/RJ14 connecting one. I am not going to have a printer attached which I understand is the normal way to fire the cash drawer so I need to write it into Access. Can anyone offer any help?
